LockWarn

The warning before the outage.

A smoke detector for the servers you look after. A small agent watches each one and sends you one message when something starts to go wrong, hours or days before it becomes a dead server and an angry client.

What it watches

Disk space

Yellow at 85% full, red at 95%. Every drive, every server.

Drives and RAID

Software RAID, SMART, HPE Smart Array, Dell PERC. Degraded, rebuilding or predictive failure, you hear about it.

Power supplies and temperature

HPE iLO, Dell iDRAC, any BMC with IPMI, and lm-sensors on Linux. A dead PSU or a hot chassis goes red.

Reboots and silence

An unexpected reboot is flagged. A server that stops reporting goes yellow after 20 minutes and red after 60.

Warranty

Yellow 60 days before the warranty ends, red when it has.

Services and ports

Name the services that must stay up, SQL Server, the practice software, the backup agent, and the ports that must answer. Stopped or closed goes red.

Clock

Checked against the time servers. A minute off is yellow, five is red. A server that needs a reboot to finish updates is flagged.

Backups

The backup files or Windows Server Backup you name must be fresh, every day. Stale or missing goes red. "Your backups are checked daily" becomes true.

Updates

Days since the last patch and how many are waiting. Yellow at 45 days, red at 90. The answer when the client's insurer asks.

Certificates and domains

Website and mail certificates, internal certificates, and the domain renewal date. Warned 30 days out, red at 7.

Proof for the invoice

A printable monthly report per client: uptime, what was caught, what was fixed, backups, patching, certificates, warranty, with your logo on it. Pro adds a public status page per client and emails the report to each client on the 1st.

Fixes what it can

Turn on auto-fix and a stopped service is restarted, a filling disk is thinned of temp files and old logs, a drifted clock is resynced, a stuck print queue is cleared, a hung service is killed and started clean, all within 5 minutes and before the office notices. Each one sends a FIXED message saying what was done and what the outage would have cost them.

Questions

Who is this for?

IT support companies that look after servers for dentists, law firms, car dealers and other small businesses. If a client's server dies on a Monday morning, you want to have known on Friday.

What does it need on the server?

Linux: Python 3 and cron. Windows: nothing, the agent is a single program. Vendor tools like ssacli, perccli, omreport, hpasmcli and ipmitool are used when they are there and skipped when they are not.

Does it send my data anywhere else?

No. The agent sends one small health report to Servasight over HTTPS. No file contents, no logins, no remote control.

What if I cancel?

Cancel from your account page any time. Monitoring stops at the end of the paid month. No contract.
